报告题目:Reaction of Hydrogen with Metals under Extreme Conditions of Pressure and Temperature

报告摘要:Recently experimental results revealed that doping hydrogen by an impurity is a possible route to form high-transition temperature superconductors (SCs) by enhancing the electron-phonon coupling. DFT calculations suggest that alkali metals, where electrons can play either donor or acceptor, are good impurity elements combining hydrogen for evaluating the high-Tc SCs. Stable polyhydrides of alkali metals have been predicted by theoretical analysis of MHn(M=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, n>5) compounds with variable hydrogen composition. Potassium (K), for example, has been proposed as a promising candidate for pressure-induced SC (~60 K at 166 GPa), but no experimental report on the structure and transport properties have been reported. This may be due to the experimental difficulties handling the sample at high temperature and pressure without exposing it to air.In this talk, the synthesis, analysis, structures, and transport properties of metal ployhydrides under “extreme conditions” employing a diamond anvil cell will be discussed. The dynamics of the formation of tungsten hydrides at high pressure and temperature will also be introduced.
报告人简介:Jae-yong Kim is a professorofPhysics Department of Hanyang University at Seoul in Korea since 2005. He is Director of Institute for High Pressure,Hanyang Universityand Brainlink Program, National Research Foundation(NRF) of Korea.He received his BSc in physics from Sogang University, Seoul, Korea in 1985 He then moved to USA for graduate study. He was awarded MSc degree in physics from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1993 and Ph. D degree in physics from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999. He had worked in Chemistry Department of Brookhaven National Laboratory during 1999-2003. After that, he returned Korea to lead the wiggler beamline project at Pohang Accelerator Laboratory during 2003-2005. His researches focus on reactions and structures of gas molecules on metal oxides, dynamics and absorptions of hydrogen in complex materials, quasicrystals and their applications on hydrogen storage, characterization of metallic thin films, and studies of materials under high pressure. He has published over 100 papers in international journals.
